Although we like to flee from “multimedia excesses”, it is evident that without a profound knowledge and a wise handling of communication tools available through new technologies, it is impossible to develop interfaces and information applications which deploy their full potential.

The computer and the Internet provide great opportunities but require content innovators and new information-handling techniques.

Our multimedia integration methodology is based upon three basic principles:

• Careful content selection for correct multimedia treatment
• Multimedia material to serve as a support and not a substitute for other information-handling techniques
• Interaction with the application: the user remains always in control and is not simply a spectator
