Client:
Pons Editorial is the largest publisher on subjects of Road Safety in the
Spanish language. The group also includes agencies, patent consultants,
insurance brokers, etc.
Objectives:
Pons asked 2mdc.com to renovate their publisher’s portal with the
aim of:
- Offering a series of services to driving schools and training centres
- Promoting online sales of its products
- Developing its web platform technology
- Extending and improving its brand image on the Net
To achieve these objectives the following was proposed:
- Develop a series of online professional services including:
- Database of online road safety knowledge
- Remote management system via the web which allows the completion and
tracking of exam tests (Licence B) taken by registered driving school
students
- Search engine for driving schools by geographical proximity
- Integrate their catalogue within the website to allow online purchase
- Integrate a payment gateway (BBVA) which allows online credit card payment
- Develop a web-log about current issues in the field of road safety
- Create a news section which collects all the latest news in this sector
together with latest projects and events organised by PONS Editorial
- Create a promotions area destined to bring awareness to the latest novelties
within their range of services and products
Technology:
Client programming: the main tools used on the client side were:
- HTML and CSS for content presentation
- Flash for the front page animations
- Javascript for the exam tests and online catalogue
Server programming: amongst the developments, those noteworthy were:
- Remote content managers in PHP and MySQL
- System of web registration for driving school students which facilitates
the taking of exam tests within a personalised interface and provides
the driving school with the necessary tools to track and manage the results
- Automatic creation of excel reports containing order information
Tracking:
The project results have been very positive as more than 3,000 driving schools
have registered, using all the services offered on the website.
Online sales increased gradually and have overtaken forecasts although there
remains a way to go for this side of the business to gain weight within
the total client billing of the publishers.
Traffic: we are unable to provide a traffic comparison following the redesigning
because statistics were not kept from the previous period. However, we can
confirm that the website traffic has increased by 20% each month since its
re-launch.
Page ranking: the results in this area continue to improve gradually. We
herewith include some of the results obtained from Google.es
